They all say it’s quiet on the Croissette this year…it looked pretty swamped to me yesterday afternoon. Sure, there are less trashy parties but the trashy folk seem just as plentiful. The new director of the festival Thierry Fremaux has focused on some of the worlds great film makers – Pedro Almodovar, Lars von Trier, Ang Lee and co but probably Marty Scorsese’s restoration of the classic Red Shoes blows everything screening here out of the water…As far as parties go I tend to avoid all but my own – see WWD Lifestyle to view coverage of the FQR dinner at the du Cap and Johnny Pigozzi’s lunch (which we will cover in our next issue).
Paul Allen’s about. Len Blavatnik is here – I just had pasta on his boat. The infatigable Caroline Scheufele is here too and gave a swell party the other night. Mick Jagger always adds legend and class value to the festival with la belle L’wren at his side.
The weather has been wonderful – the food at Tétou delicious but devastatingly expensive. The du Cap will host the Amfar dinner tomorrow. I kissed our contributor Sharon Stone this morning as she sun bathed in her cabana.
Tonight we head to the world premier of Inglorious Bastards starring Brad Pitt and Finch and Partners client Diane Kruger.
I grump a little about the tee-shirt clab scoundrel or the dress code of some hustler at the pool but then I mellow as this Cannes and Cannes is a mixed salad. My mother would add MSG to her salads to give more spice. No need for that here on the Côte d’ Azur. Even in a ‘quiet’ year.
