Bicycle For a Day

19 September 2008

Bicycle For a Day launchStar of Full Metal Jacket, Matthew Modine, launches his new scheme, Bicycle For a Day, this weekend in New York. Up to 20,000 cyclists are expected to descend on South Street Seaport to join the bicycle ride, led by Matthew and US Olympian Sharon Seagrave, around Manhattan. The scheme has been created in order to promote global awareness of the effects of individuals carbon footprint. “The environmental situation is a great opportunity for us all to work together to find solutions. Bicycle for a Day is just that – citizens of the world joining together globally and acting locally’ say’s Modine.

Modine’s passion for cycling came as child when he found an unlocked BMX in New York . Most people may have considered this as theft; Modine saw it as a calling. Since then he has been a keen cyclists and environmental campaigner.

The BFAD mission is to “inspire and inform individuals that simple everyday actions that, done collectively, can make a real difference in the fight against global warming”. If you are unable to attend the ride in New York the staff of Finch’s Quarterly will all be performing their own cycle ride in London’s Richmond Park tomorrow to mark the occasion to which all readers are warmly invited to attend.
