Hermès Pop Up in Liberty’s Scarf Room
When it comes to dalliances with other entities the House of Hermès is more reserved than the celibate poet Morrissey. This makes their popping up in Liberty’s scarf room frightfully exciting. Not only will one be able to peruse the seasons losanges, gavroches and other fair from Hermès, but the liaison has born a cross pollination of prints and motifs in a range of scarves, handkerchiefs and ties. Any self respecting dandy worth his snuff will want to add a slither of this pedigree French/Anglo union into their finery.
On opening night I slipped in for a slope about. A French themed bar supplied sharp authentic Citron Presse, Kir Royal and blonde pression beer, while Charles du Mas (aka DJ Prince Charles) supplied the music. His family owns Hermès, don-cha-know? I clocked Charles behind the decks with chic white phones on his head (do they still have decks or is it all virtual now?). The scarf progeny from the two cravat merchants was, needles to say, presented beautifully. There was also a scarf based fashion shoot in situ. Hermès’ team of highly proficient scarf knotters was on hand to fashion something for those that fancied it, verging upon the exotic at times, comical at others. Being shot were Nicola Kavanagh, Editor in Chief of Glass magazine and her creative associate Alyn Horton. Glass is going to appear early next year and is garnering a great deal anticipation. I advised them on scarf select and deployment. Nicola is a red head so turquoise always a winner, while Alyn was ‘doing a school boy’ as it were, so I added a yellow and black tartan tie. For myself, I devised a western rustler look and petitioned the angelic Anna from Hermès to affect a Madonna-esque stance. Behold, both the sublime and the ridiculous either side of a Zebra’s head. I wonder if it will be a cover?
