Mr Hare

You are all familiar with the story of the Hare and the Tortoise, however do you know the tale of the Hare and the Novelists?

Driven by disappointment at the fancy shoe scene of late I’ve been forced to sniff out new blood. To my delight Mr Hare shot past the competition and into view, purveying not only attitude but smashing sharp footwear too. His first collection is evening slanted; a delightful line with several very original and elegant touches. Mr Hare describes his collections as “fantasy shoes I wished might have existed, but I couldn’t find.” He tells me he is aiming to reinvigorate shoes on a style and emotional level (I love it when menswear gets emotional).

They’re made in a factory in Empoli, Tuscany, also employed by shoe big hitters such as Ferragamo and Gucci. The winter collection is named after eminent writers. An elongated and exotic black lace up with stingray upper is called Mr Orwell, while Mr Fitzgerald is a handsome hybrid Oxford patent. My favourite are the idiosyncratic Mr Genet loafers that boast not one or two, but six tassels per shoe. Perfect for those who think with evening shoe select that less definitely is bore. With bated breath one waits for Mr. Hares Spring collection, and wonders will there be something in tortoise hide?
